Mystery

The "Carol and Craig Caravan" is on the loose again this weekend, inflicting Channel 3rd's Carol Wang and  Craig Negrelli on folks at another shopping center this Sunday afternoon. Once again, viewers are being enticed with the promise of "free gifts" to the first 50 people who show up. It's amusing to think about what these "events" look like. We imagine C&C  standing around awkwardly,

Readers Keep Beating Us to the Punch

A reach into the old OMANews mailbag reveals more discontnet among viewers. We pass along a few of our favorites... One alert reader writes regarding KETV's Matt Schick:He apparently has a blog and it's run in the Reader on line today. He is like every other t-v sports reporter I've ever seen. They think they're overworked and never hesitate to waste a half hour to tell anyone who will listen

Mail

Notes from alert readers...Had we checked our email more often, we would've seen this email on May 27th:The folks at Channel 6 News, at 5:00, did their TOP STORY on how inconvenient road construction is at 33rd and Farnam. Are they really so lazy that they only go two blocks for a story and decide it's the most important due to proximity to their building?Answer: To use Steve Martin's line, "Is a

WOWT Control Room Commandeered By Chimps?

That's the best explanation we can come up with for the ongoing technical snafus that plague the Big Six. It seems as if every newscast includes at least one blindfolded or very drunk button-pusher. Examples? We have scads of 'em, but we'll share just a few of the most recent: A Tuesday afternoon/evening story featuring the parents of a woman killed in a weekend car accident superimposed the

The News Starts Now: Sweeps Edition, Week 2

We know it's not news, but we're not sure it's even a story.

Rumor Mill: Jonesin' for a Gig at 42?

An alert reader and tipster reports that former WOWT morning anchor Trey Jones is in the running for the weekend spot that became available when the station fired Dave Hansen. Putting Jones alongside the impeccable Amanda Mueller could conceivably create Omaha's most watchable weekend anchor team. Jones left Channel 6 in May, citing the toll the early shift hours were taking on his family life.

Who Won't Wear the Ribbon?

Today, a reader (notice the absence of the adjective typically used with this word), sent a comment (accidentally deleted) that said, "Hey Ted, you like to jump on the local stations about uselessness... So where's your link to the Red Cross or Salvation Army for hurricane relief?"Our feeling is this: if you're too stupid or lazy to type in a URL or Google "Salvation Army," then you're probably

Ratings As We Know Them

We haven't come across a lot of ratings info, but based on tidbits provided to us by an assortment of friendly contacts, here's what we think we know: WOWT's decision to milk Pat Persaud's departure and the giveaway of a few stray Paul McCartney tickets for ratings paid off; viewers turned out in droves to watch Pat salute herself, giving Channel 6's 10 p.m. newscast a clear win in its time

It's February: Break Out the Stupid Stories!

With February sweeps comes the thrice-yearly pissing contest in which KETV and WOWT seek to make the biggest mountain out of the smallest molehill. Thursday night brought us Newswatch 7's Brandi Petersen telling viewers about how they're all in danger of OVERDOSING on OVER-THE-COUNTER MEDICATIONS.Over on 6News, pun junkie Mike McKnight tried to throw a good scare into its viewers by investigating

Back—and Bigger and Badder Than Ever

When we last posted here, we expected to take just a couple of weeks of vacation. But we were having so much fun that two weeks became three and three turned into four, and before we knew it, we'd spent four weeks out of town. You can't have too much vacation, can you? While we were away, it appears that very little happened. WOWT, after playing Dave Webber's nearly two-month absence the way the

Weekend Notes

Gerrish Resurfaces: Courny Gerrish fans must've breathed a sigh of relief Sunday afternoon when the WOWT anchor/reporter reappeared next to Paul Baltes after more than two weeks of absence. We had already prepared a piece asking if her disappearance signalled yet another departure from the Big Six when, lo and behold, there she was. The Tiniest Weathercaster: No it's not a children's book title.

Point

An alert reader says it best...I am surprised you did not do a commentary on Sux News's 20 min love fest on Dave Webber's "last day" even though he has been on more since his retirement than he has the past 6 months! 8 min of news, 2 min of flowers, and 20 min of dave webber!Yeah. It doesn't make a lot of sense, does it? More great planning by market leader in cluelessness.
