The New Ed Sean McMahon
KETV has found a replacement for departed weekend sports anchor Sean McMahon. Matt Schick has been hired from KHGI in Grand Island. Here's his bio.
Disappearing Deyo
We hadn't meant to suggest that there was anything sinister in KETV's use of the chroma-key "Newsplex" background during a recent weekend newscast. Multiple sources have informed us that Channel 7 was re-tiling the floor of the real Newsplex and put Deyo against the greenscreen as a temporary fix. We did, however, enjoy the sight of Deyo vaporizing on-air. (Unfortunately, the clip has been
Bits
• One alert reader/well-placed insider suggests that Joe Jordan left Action 3rd of his own volition, reportedly to oversee a new Nebraska government watchdog blog similar to texaswatchdog.com.• Among the details we neglected to mention in discussing the Action 3rd email forwarded to us by an alert reader: Mary Williams had been working full-time as marketing director for a local financial
Channel 6 Breaks Health Story
With Pat Persaud taking another night off (apparently two days in a row is too much for her), it fell to heir-presumptive Tracy Madden to deliver this evening's report of "What's Going Around." What did the staff of the self-proclaimed "Heartland News Leader" discover by making five phone calls to local pediatricians' offices? Well, in addition to the fact that there's a lot of seasonal allergy
Covering The Talking Picture Box
One of the main reasons that OMA News even exists is that Omaha's daily newspaper fails to provide regular local coverage of what it seems to consider this new medium called "tele-vision." Omaha has had stations up and running since the late 1940s. Were the paper to look into it, we're reasonably certain they'd find that many of us now own and watch these new machines and that there are story
The Resemblance Is Eerie
A few days ago, just minutes after enduring the umpteenth airing of former WOWT "anchor" Pat Persaud's spot for an exciting trip to Australia, we flipped over to KXVO and caught an episode of the Simpsons that featured this image of teacher Edna Krabapple and couldn't help being reminded of the slinky attire Queen Pat frequently draped over her wrinkly torso back when she was climbing into the
Why Does KETV Tease Us This Way?
We know it's just wishful thinking, but every morning that we tune in to KETV without being greeted by the ghastly specter of Elictia Hammond is one more morning that gets us believing that Channel 7 management has finally come to its senses and (1) fired Omafrickinrosa and (2) replaced her with the much better Brandi Petersen. And while we're on the topic of that particular morning show, would
Up in the Morning
We don't know why, but Brandi Petersen was anchoring KETV's morning show on Thursday. Regular anchors John Oakey and Elictia Hammond were missing. Getting even one day of relief from the unbearable Hammond is always appreciated, but finding rising star Petersen in her place was an especially nice bonus.Credit Channel 7 management with at least some smarts when it comes to anchor selection.

Time for a little reader fun.Use the comment feature to suggest an appropriate caption for this photo from the SuxNews Facebook page. (Is it an optical illusion or is Maltard a little stout in this pic?)
Epic
An alert reader sends us this YouTube gem, in which WOWT's brainless anchor John Knicely demonstrates an epic fail as he tries to explain a term the kids are using nowadays. Why don't the execs at Gray Television just flush money down the toilet instead of paying J-Pa? Or do they have so much cash that they don't mind keeping the Babe Ruth of stupidity on the payroll?
Twins?
Has anybody else noticed that when SuxNews' Jimmy Thiedlecki is standing outdoors shouting his "Burglaries and Break-ins" report at the camera, he sounds amazingly similar to Channel 3rd's perennial irritant, Travis Justice? We're not sure which one should be more insulted by that observation.
What's Going On Here
One element that appears to be missing from the Omaha World-Herald is a column devoted to coverage of local broadcast media. Oh sure, from time to time, we'll get an occasional story regarding ratings or this or that personnel move, but that coverage is sporadic at best. The paper's policy seems to be this: If we just ignore this "TV" fad, it'll go away, and people will go back to getting their
