Depends

"We're waking up wet this morning!" Channel Sux's overbearing goober/anchor Jimmy Thiedlecki exclaimed gleefully this morning at 6:30. Maybe it's just us, but we had always assumed he woke up that way every morning.

Calling in the Reinforcements

Unfortunately, we will be out of town for tonight's hard-hitting exposé on big fat tomatoes and oranges on the Big Six, and we forgot to set our recorder before we left. So if any of you are willing to send us your review of Rebecca Kleeman's groundbreaking report, we'd be most grateful to receive your email. We will credit you, or you may remain anonymous; it's entirely your call. (That, by the

Weekend Weirdness

• We shoulda known it was gonna be a strange weekend when we walk into our favorite restaurant on Friday evening and there sits Travis Justice waiting for a table. Having to spend several minutes looking at His Fatness from a distance of only three feet doesn't exactly bode well for any meal, no matter how hungry you might've been. Lucky for the Brockmans that he wasn't seated near us; we think

Five

With so many problems to document, WOWT seldom gives us cause (or pause) to praise its quality-challenged efforts.

However, from time to time, we try to remind ourselves that there remain a few salvageable parts that could form the core of a reconstituted on-air team, were the station's management/ownership so inclined.

Announcing the “I Want my Google TV!” contest

(Cross posted from the YouTube blog)

If you’re like most people, you probably love watching YouTube videos on your computer. But what if there were a full-screen, HD version of YouTube available a channel flip away on your TV? Now there is, made possible by Google TV.

Google TV brings television, apps, and the entire World Wide Web directly to your living room...so you can watch even more YouTube, only now on the biggest screen in your home. And because it’s the season of giving, the crew here at YouTube and Google are excited to announce a contest to give away 100 free 46” Sony Internet TVs powered by Google TV.

To enter to win, create and upload a video telling us and all your friends on YouTube why you’re pumped up about Google TV. Winning submissions will be selected based on originality, creativity, entertainment factor, technical execution, and how well you explain why you are excited about Google TV and watching YouTube on Google TV. View the contest rules and full list of judging criteria here.

Don’t forget to upload your video by December 22, and tag it with “ytgtv” so we can showcase your creations. Winners will be announced by January 20, 2011.

Good luck!

Is Morningside Really a College?

One concern we have about newly hired anchor/reporter Sheila Brummer: she is a graduate of Morningside College. Now, we hate to impugn the reputation of a school, but TV news in Omaha has not exactly had the best luck with Morningside alums. KETV's multiply-challenged webmistress Shiloh Woolman claims to have a degree from there, as does WOWT anchor hobbyist Pat Persaud. Apparently a Morningside

Tasteless

Now, we know we'll be accused of picking on Channel Sux, but the facts speak for themselves.

All four local stations reported on the horrible case in which a woman is accused of leaving her dog outside without food and allowing the animal to either freeze or starve to death.

To draw attention to the story, the Nebraska Humane Society released photos of the dog and the doghouse in which it

Sheila's Shifting History

As noted earlier, new WOWT anchor/reporter Sheila Brummer's bio on the Big Six website was posted Monday. Among other things, it says that she "grew up watching Channel 6 while growing up on a farm in Western Iowa." Other than awkward phrasing, nothing odd there, right?Well. While we were trying to Google up a picture of Brummer to put in place of the "Picture Coming Soon" space-filler linked

Newsbotch 7: Farrah Fazal Fs Up Friday Frozen Freeway Report

The decision-makers at Channel 7 must be slow learners. What else could make them keep dispatching Farrah Fazal to cover live events? Friday night found Fazal reporting from an exit on I-80 where a fatal accident had just occurred. When the folks in the studio threw it to her, viewers were treated to what sounded like incoherent babbling punctuated by a generous dose of "ums." We didn't copy down

OMA News Bulletin: Big Shakeup in the Works

Just when we were thinking it'd be safe to get back in the water, we are getting reports that Pat Persaud will be joining the KPTM staff as lead anchor this fall. (This would explain her two-week absence from the air, wouldn't it?) Word is that there are other "big moves" associated with Pat's jump to 42. More info as we get it...UPDATE: (11:11 a.m.) Negotiations over non-compete clause in Pat's
